NUI 2006/2007 Achievements

High School:

The graduating class of 2007 consists of ten students, two of whom are National Merit Commended Students.  This class’s average SAT score is 1952.  The verbal mean is 658, the math mean is 656, and the writing mean is 638.  In the previous three years, NUI graduated a total of twenty students with a National Merit Commended Student in each graduating class and average SAT scores of 613 in verbal and 636 in math.  All of NUI’s graduates have been accepted to four year colleges which include Barnard, Drexel, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Princeton, Rider, Rutgers, Seton Hall, The College of New Jersey, University of Pennsylvania, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, and William Paterson University.  Several graduates have been accepted into Honors programs in their fields of study, including the combined seven year B.S. and DMD degree program and the Pharm D. program.

Middle School:

NUI Elementary/Middle School continues to maintain its excellent academic record.  The Stanford 9 Achievement Test (SAT9), a national standardized test, is administered every year to students in KG through 8th grade in the spring. In May 2006, over 90% of NUI students received scores that were average or above, and about 60% of students scored in the top 25% of the students who took the test nationwide.  In addition, NUI students continue to receive honors at the state and national level.  For example, an NUI student was one of two students tied for first place among fifth-grade students in NJ in the Reader’s Digest National Word Power Challenge in 2006.  Three middle school students were among the top 100 students in New Jersey in the Reader’s Digest National Word Power Challenge in 2007.  Two NUI elementary school students were National Student Winners in the 2007 National Language Arts League Competition. A sixth grade student was a Wallenberg Honors Program 2007 Finalist.  Sixteen middle school students were identified and honored in the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth 2007 Talent Search. Nine seventh and eighth graders received Distinction in the Talent Search for scoring as well as or better than the average college-bound high school senior on the SAT.  Six of these students also received a State Award with High Honors.  In addition, seven fifth and sixth grade students received a State Award with High Honors for their high scores on the SCAT.
